Ban Users from the Discover Server

The goal of this article is to provide you with information about the Discover Server’s ban system in case you ever have to use it. It has come to my attention that some people do not fully understand how the ban system works and would like to shed some light on it.

Bans can be placed on a user’s IP address or hostname depending on what is used to connect to the server. If a player tries to connect with an already banned IP address, they will receive an “Illegal connection attempt from banned address” error. If a player tries to connect with an already banned hostname, they will receive a message saying the hostname is banned.

When a user is banned, the server’s system logs are updated to include this information. Upon joining, all users can view these logs if they have permission to read bans. If someone tries to connect with an already banned IP address OR hostname, they will receive an “Illegal connection attempt from banned address” error. If they try to connect with an already banned IP address AND hostname, they will receive a “Connection attempt from banned hostname and/or IP address” error.

What is the Discover server and what are its purposes?

The Discover server was created by users of the official Roblox discord as a place to find other people to play games with. It’s sort of like a mix between the regular, automated role-search channels and a group chat for you and your friends. We try our best to help everyone out that asks for it, but we can’t do that if you don’t properly tag your messages. The Discover server is NOT meant for any other purposes outside of finding people to play with.

How to ban a user from the Discover server

In order to ban a user from the Discover server, you must have Manage Server permissions. In order to avoid banning innocent users by accident, we recommend that you request this permission from a moderator or admin of the server before proceeding with a ban.

From there you’ll want to click on the “Ban Users” tab. By default, anyone who tries to join with an already banned IP address OR hostname will receive a “Connection attempt from banned hostname and/or IP address” error. If you would like people with this ban level to be able to join.

The consequences of banning a user from the Discover server

Banning a user from the Discover server prevents them from being able to rejoin. This effectively puts them on a temporary leave until they can get an admin to remove their ban. If you would like someone to be unable to rejoin ever, please use the “Banned for 1 week” option as this is the default ban for users who don’t have a ban level set.

If you need assistance with banning someone from the Discover server, please contact an admin or moderator for assistance and they’ll be happy to help you out. Since this is a pretty straightforward process, we usually get to ban requests within 5 minutes or less.

Conclusion

The Discover server does its best to provide a safe, welcoming environment for everyone who plays Roblox. We can’t do this if certain people keep ruining the experience with their bad behavior.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this article, please contact one of our admins or moderators. Alternatively you could look at the rules page on the Discover server and then see an admin or moderator in-game for assistance.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article and we hope that it helped answer your questions surrounding bans on the Discover server.
