The Danganronpa series is known for its captivating story and interesting characters. There are two games in the series, Danganronpa 1-2 Reload, which was released in Japan on July 25th, 2017.
One of the most recognized hairstyles in the world is the pompadour.
It’s little surprise that it’s found a home in anime, with roots going back 400 years and connections to cultures and music styles from certain decades.
But who are the most famous anime characters that best reflect this diverse style?
Here are some of my favorite anime characters that proudly wear a pompadour, ranging from Japanese delinquents to a 90s shounen warrior and a peacekeeping sci-fi racer.
Tenga Onigawara, number 20
Mob Psycho 100 is a Japanese anime series.
Tenga probably doesn’t get enough sleep, based on the condition of his bags under his eyes.
This 14-year-old, who made her official debut in EP 04 (after a cameo two episodes before), knows the power of violence.
Sure, you shouldn’t battle your way through everything all of the time. Tenga, on the other hand, has had a lot of success utilizing violence to address his problems.
Tenga, on the other hand, does not completely embrace the life of the typical Japanese criminal.
Although he is not an official member of the Body Improvement Club, the other members have welcomed him in.
Tenga is also evocative of teenagers who struggle to preserve or establish their individuality, which is why he resorts to his aggressive side.
Tenga is more than his outward looks.
He hasn’t missed a class in two years, isn’t obscene, and aspires to be a manga creator.
Metal Bat (19.)
One Punch Man is a Japanese anime series.
The 17-year-old S-Class hero from one of the most explosive shounen comedies of the last decade debuts at No. 19.
Metal Bat is readily identifiable, not just because of his pompadour but also because of his black-and-red gangster costume, despite the large number of characters in the series.
His eyes are piercing, as though he won’t give up even in the face of death.
Metal Bat has fought Demon-level and even Dragon-level opponents.
This is partially due to his self-assurance, but it’s also due to his strength, which enables him to grow more stronger and harder as the fight progresses.
Metal Bat, on the other hand, isn’t the brightest character in the series.
You might argue he favors muscle over intellect.
Regardless, he will never forget his vow to his younger sister Zenko that he would not use violence while she is around.
Tatsuya Himekawa, age 18
Beelzebub is a Japanese animated television series.
Have you ever pondered what anime characters with pompadours would look like if they altered their hairdo to something less outlandish?

This man has everything.
Because his father runs a corporate empire, he believes that everything can be addressed with money, which has proved to be successful in the majority of cases.
Tatsuya often pays individuals who work for his rivals, easily undermining enemies.
Tatsuya looks down on others because of his socioeconomic status. Fortunately, his ultimate loss transforms him into a nicer person over time — and he’s always less scummy in online games.
But, returning to Tatsuya’s new look, you should see him when he takes off his spectacles and lets his hair down.
You’d probably have no idea it was him.
Marco Ikusaba (#17)
Future Diary is an anime series set in the future.
Marco is Mirai Niki’s brown-haired, confident young man — and why shouldn’t he be?
He developed his fighting skills on the streets, and he’s confident in his ability to defend his loved ones.
His high school love, Ai Mikami, desires the same thing as Marco.
They want to win the violent game and become deities by using the Exchange Diary to keep track of each other.
As a result, their goal is to be in love forever.
Marco is someone I admire not just as a combatant but also as a lover.
He’ll never hesitate to put his life on the line for Ai, unlike Yukiteru Amano, and he wants Yukiteru to be more brave for Yuno (despite the fact that viewers know she doesn’t need assistance beating others).
Finally, I like Marco’s habit of carrying a comb with him wherever he could to preserve his pompadour as he grew older.
Mondo Oowada (Mondo Oowada) (Mondo Oowad
Danganronpa: The Animation is a Japanese anime series.
Danganronpa: The Animation (and Danganronpa 3) has its own pompadour-loving guy as it transitioned from one brutal survival animation to the next.
Do you think he looks like a stereotypical Japanese gang member?
That’s because Mondo is the leader of The Crazy Diamonds, not simply one of them.
This was a motorcycle gang headed by his onii-chan, Daiya, during the time.
His brother was the one who got him into bicycling, and it was also (unfortunately) the last thing they did together following a terrible accident for which Mondo still feels responsible.
Don’t let his 14-inch pompadour and overall look fool you into thinking he’s into brawling and cursing.
Mondo loves dogs since he used to have one called Chuck as a child.
Even just talking about him makes him emotional.
Rustyrose is number 15 on the list.
Fairy Tail is a Japanese animated television series.
Rustyrose stands out from the crowd without saying anything, thanks to his silver pompadour, white gloves, silver spectacles, and overall stylish clothing.
Still, it’s when he talks that he shines the brightest.
Rustyrose, like the other members of the strong Grimoire Heart, has a stern appearance, yet he enjoys being flamboyant, from his choice of words and way of speaking to even his hand gestures.
But his innocent appearance can’t conceal his terrible side:
Rustyrose laughed madly as he imagined a terrible future in which Zeref Dragneel ruled and those who couldn’t utilize magic were murdered. That’s not a good thing, particularly since he has access to the Arc of Embodiment.
After all, he’s changed a lot in the last seven years (but not exactly for the better).
Tetsuya Kusakaba, 14
Katekyo Hitman Reborn is a Japanese anime series.
Tetsuya Kusakaba works for Kyoya Hibari’s criminal gang. The Namimori Middle Disciplinary Committee, also known as the Namimori Middle Disciplinary Committee, isn’t as ethically sound as it seems when Tetsuya uses his position to spoil the days of other pupils.
He loves isolation over company (unless it’s Hibari), and if he finds himself in a throng, he’ll show off his aggressive side.
Tetsuya, on the other hand, isn’t beyond redemption.
Lambo, for example, enjoys spending time with him.
And it’s difficult to dislike a delinquent who spends three hours styling his pompadour, a hairdo he’s worn since kindergarten.
I don’t believe Hibari could have had a more devoted companion than Tetsuya.
He always followed Hibari’s orders, and the two of them were still working together to solve the riddle of the Box Weapons and Rings.
hoodlum number thirteen
Akudama Drive is a Japanese anime series.
Hoodlum was one of the most odd MCs on Akudama Drive, which was one of the most strange new programs of 2020.
Is he just The Joker in anime form?
The purple outfit and the fact that both are crooks are the only similarities.
Hoodlum, unlike Batman’s archenemy, isn’t looking for havoc for the sake of it. Rather, this green-eyed guy is driven by money, which is expected.
Money was what landed him in jail (stealing), and it was also what drove him to pursue the Akudama.
Hoodlum, on the other hand, is neither a serious danger nor complete filth.
He’s desperate for cash, but he’s also a coward who’ll side with you if you beat him.
Hoodlum will place a lot of faith in you and your skills since he’s a scaredy cat.
Finally, even though he lies all the time, he has shown devotion at some point, especially to Brawler.
12. Bulat
Akame ga Kill is a Japanese anime series.
In my opinion, Akame ga Kill did not age well.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate its benefits.
The so-called 100 Man-Slayer Bulat, an assassin from the Revolutionary Army’s Night Raid Division, is one example.
Bulat is far from a Japanese adolescent delinquent, with a heart-shaped pompadour (that from the side appears like a croissant).
He’s in his early twenties and dressed in a form-fitting costume consisting of a black shirt, white trousers, and a green chest and shoulder guard.
He’s also a strong warrior, with a mastery of swords and spears.
In addition, his extraordinary vision enables him to deal with numerous adversaries at once.
More significantly, he was a significant figure in Tatsumi’s life.
Bulat assisted Tatsumi in harnessing his emotions without allowing them to control him.
He saw himself as a fiery person, yet he was always calm in combat. Tatsumi maintains Bulat’s soul alive by following his words of wisdom, even if Bulat is no longer living (and taking care of his Incursio).
Enji Koma (#11)
Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese anime series.
Enji Koma first debuted in the series early on, but you didn’t get to know him until much later.
At first, he seems to be no more than your ordinary server at a similarly typical neighborhood café.
However, Anteiku (both the land and the people) were never as ordinary as they seemed.
In reality, Enji is one of the ghouls Yoshimura had to teach about living in peace with humans, since he is a violent and fight-hungry ghoul.
Enji used to be known as the Devil Ape, the ruthless leader of the Apes, a group that didn’t back down from even the most powerful detectives.
Of course, when detectives invaded Anteiku, Enji’s existence as a calm café server came to a stop, forcing him and the rest of his group to battle once again.
Fans of Tokyo Ghoul will remember him for his amiable attitude — and for being a good boss to Kanneki — regardless of his harsh past.
Atsushi Sendo is number ten on the list.
Tokyo Revengers is a Japanese anime series.
Atsushi Sendo is the newest pompadour-loving character on our list, since Tokyo Revengers is one of the newest and popular anime series of 2021.
Atsushi has purple hair and is a member of the Tokyo Manji Gang, a Tokyo-based gang of middle-school guys.
The identity of the motorcycle gang had been damaged for a long period (in an alternative reality) as leadership shifted — and Atsushi despised having Tetta Kisaki in charge.
Unlike Tetta, who is dishonest and cruel, Atsushi is a kind person.
He treated the delinquents who looked up to him with respect. Atsushi cherished his buddies and would always go out of his way to ensure their safety.
Despite this, he was unable to stop Kisaki from torturing him.
It was consuming his soul, and there appeared to be nothing he could do except suffer.
Needless to say, Atsushi’s life has been difficult.
And you’ll never forget him or how he strived to improve himself and the people he cared about.
Kazuma Kuwabara (nine)
Yu Yu Hakusho is a Japanese anime series.
This famous shounen from the early 1990s, also known as Ghost Fighter, featured Kazuma Kuwabara as one of the four major protagonists.
If Hiei was small, Kurama had long red hair, and Yusuke wore a green uniform, Kazuma had a filthy orange pompadour, wore a blue jumpsuit, and was the tallest of the four.
He dressed like a member of a bike gang at times, and he even wore a hachimaki, or Japanese headband.
But how did he come across as a person?
Kazuma seemed to be bumbling at times, but he was unquestionably honorable and would go to any length for his friends.
Because he’s in love with a real monster, his love life isn’t likely to go anywhere. But I don’t believe Yukina’s ethnicity or lack of experience with love will deter him.
Kanichi Konishi is number eight on the list.
Food Wars is an anime series.
Kanichi, although being a minor character, drew my interest due to his looks and (more significantly) his love of donburi.
He had both a thick pompadour and a neat mustache, which he flaunted in front of the camera.
I’m not sure whether he’s a great donburi chef, but no one can dispute that he knows a lot about the dish.
You just have to inquire about donburi to cheer him up when he’s sad (and his pompadour slumps to match his mood).
He’s so passionate about it that he’s the president of the school’s Donburi Research Society, and he was once its only member.
Ikumi Mito thankfully joined after her fight with Soma, and both Soma and Megumi were made honorary members.
That’s fantastic news, particularly because Ikumi shaved off a large chunk of Kanichi’s pompadour, which fortunately came back.
Grevil de Blois, no. 7
Gosick is a Japanese anime series.
Grevil has one of anime’s most ridiculous-looking pompadour haircuts.
It’s as if a drill from the robot Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann was inadvertently transplanted to this historical mystery series.
However, I adore his style.
Grevil has blonde hair, a white coat, and a muted pink necktie instead of a gangster appearance, and Cecile even claims that his hair smells like flowers.
The greatest thing of Grevil’s pompadour is this:
He used to wear his long hair down to his shoulders and had a kind attitude.
However, something occurred that made him alter his hairdo (and develop a more avant-garde personality).
Gosick provided a background to a minor character’s pompadour. It’s not every day that you come across anything like that.
Knuckle Bine (No. 6)
Hunter x Hunter is a Japanese anime series (2011)
Knuckle Bine is the antithesis of anybody who thinks all anime characters with pompadours have to be aggressive, noisy, and impatient.
Despite his frightening demeanor, this Beast Hunter is a fantastic and admirable individual.
Knuckle is willing to help anybody in need, to the point that he would prioritize assisting others above completing his tasks.
Furthermore, he loves animals, and the animals seem to like him as well.
With him around, homeless pets are in excellent care.
Because Gon and Killua are children, Knuckle, like many others in the story, misjudged them.
He quickly realized his error, though, and resolved to assist the two in honing their combat skills by fighting with them for 20 days.
Finally, Knuckle is a unique pompadour-haired character in that he seldom acts without first considering and evaluating his actions:
He wanted to be a part of the Extermination Team, but he needed to know if the Chimera Ants were good or evil and needed to be eradicated.
Ryunosuke Umemiya, No. 5
Shaman King is a Japanese anime series.
Ryunosuke’s beautiful pompadour, like Kanichi’s from Food Wars, may sometimes mirror his feelings — and it isn’t always safe.
Asakura Yoh is one of many people who has had his lengthy pompadour shaved.
He, on the other hand, adores his pompadour and will patiently wait for it to regrow.
Ryunosuke also has a classic and beautiful appearance.
He typically wears a three-piece suit with noticeable sideburns and a collar and cuff that are much too large.
He was formerly a gang leader with the attitude of a stereotypical delinquent, as one would anticipate.
Ryunosuke became more appreciative, devoted, and compassionate as he spent more time with Asakura Yoh and continued his search for the “perfect location.”
I know he’d be successful in life if he were a kickboxer or a professional boxer, for example.
But it’s wonderful to watch him as the head chef of a hot spring inn, wowing guests with his culinary prowess (especially in all things sushi).
4. JP
Redline is a Japanese anime series.
JP, a very charming man with a dazzling pompadour, is at the heart of Redline, an extremely animated and adrenaline-pumping picture.
This Elvis-like hair isn’t just a coincidence, though.
His character design is inspired by the greaser appearance popular in the 1950s and 1960s in the United States.
JP’s racing vehicle, a modified Trans Am WR, also brings up memories of classic muscle cars from the 1960s.
Aside from his good looks, the popular 28-year-old pacifist doesn’t have many friends.
To be honest, he only has Frisbee to call a genuine buddy. He is, however, a boyhood friend who will do all in his power to help JP realize his goal of competing in and winning the Redline race.
I like how JP’s youthful and confident (or childish and conceited) personality fits the film’s aim. JP enjoys being amused and excited, and Redline elicited similar emotions among the audience.
Mamoru Takamura is number three on the list.
Hajime no Ippo is a Japanese anime series.
Even those who aren’t fans of boxing will be captivated by the Hajime no Ippo series.
Mamoru Takamura, being the series’ second most important character, had to be a well-written and completely developed character, which he is.
Rather of being a normal delinquent, Mamoru comes from a rich household.
Only two of his siblings, on the other hand, did not make him feel alienated and unwanted.
Genji Kamogawa would invite Mamoru to be a boxer after seeing his easy and unexpectedly skilled thrashing of several delinquents on a tragic night.
Mamoru would eventually make enough money as a boxer to be able to live well on his own and never need money from his family.
He progressed from a boxer who just did it in his spare time to a multi-weight champion.
Yes, he’s conceited.
Mamoru, on the other hand, is a real boxing genius.
To obtain an edge, he meticulously analyzes his opponents’ in-ring maneuvers and overall demeanor.
And, although he may not always express it, it’s obvious that he appreciates Kamogawa’s guidance and instruction.
You’ll have plenty of opportunities to adore him, despise him, and either laugh at or with him.
He’s egotistical, intelligent, irritating, grateful, and obviously ambitious. I like Mamoru since he’s a realistic character.
2. Josuke Higashikata (Josuke Higashikata)
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable is an anime series based on the manga JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
Josuke Higashikata is one of the greatest anime characters, which is saying a lot since the JoJo series is full with all-time favorites.
Josuke keeps it all together as the primary character of the critically praised Diamond is Unbreakable section of the series, with a solid background, a comprehensible and admirable demeanor, and a strong Stand that represents his genuinely loving approach.
Josuke did not get enraged when he discovered he was Joseph Joestar’s bastard kid.
He was worried, on the other hand, that his presence had created family conflict, and hoped his father knew he was well.
And Josuke isn’t attempting to be a saint:
When the people he loves about suffer, he gets enraged.
Furthermore, he explores less respectable methods of earning money, even though his late grandfather (a sane police officer) would disapprove.
His character is elevated and colored by a variety of different factors.
For one thing, he isn’t afraid to own his shortcomings in a variety of areas.
Even though Josuke wants to be like Jotaro, he is afraid of falling short of his goals.
Josuke is stylish, afraid of turtles and ghosts, and open with his emotions. When his pompadour is mocked, he becomes enraged fast.
Most importantly, Josuke gives back.
When he was a child, a stranger went out of their way to assist him, and today he’s someone that anybody in need can rely on.
1. Dandy
Space Dandy is a Japanese anime series.
Dandy would undoubtedly win the top spot on this list, with his shaggy sideburns and solid-black pompadour.
The eponymous MC, who is often referred to as an idiot by both the English and Japanese narrators, has one major goal:
Dandy wants to eat at every branch of the intergalactic eatery BooBies (yep, it’s a Hooters knockoff).
This alien hunter and spacecraft pilot isn’t interested in pondering the meaning of existence or the universe’s and other realities’ humbling intricacy and vastness.
He simply wants to eat excellent cuisine while admiring women’s breasts.
But Dandy (and Space Dandy) are more than their worldly desires indicate.
Unironically, this space-age lanky delinquent is the ideal guide to this extremely imaginative and hilarious sci-fi universe.
Dandy is portrayed and defined in a variety of ways due to the episodic structure of the series and the different styles of the episode directors.
You never know what will happen in the following episode, which is fantastic.
He’s a lot of fun to watch, particularly when he’s messing about with new aliens or his old ship robot QT and feline-like alien pal Mymyamo.
Dandy outshines every other anime character with a beautiful hairdo, and you’ll be thrilled when the major secret (and Dandy’s reaction) is revealed.
