The Jailer's Gauntlet - World of Warcraft Games Guide

wow3 - The Jailer's Gauntlet

If you’re wondering about how the Jailer’s Gauntlet works but don’t want to do PTR or burn yourself, here is the place to go. If you don’t want to watch a long YouTube video and instead prefer to read a long article, I’ll explain how it works. Of course, since it’s PTR, everything is subject to change. So far, it seems to be a lot more fun to play than a typical Torghast run. Although I will say that I have been enjoying Torghast a lot since 9.1, so take that what you will.

Where

  • As predicted, the Jailer’s Gauntlet is immediately close to the Twisted Corridors. There is presently no quest chain that leads to it, and I’m not sure whether one is planned. So all you have to do now is get there.

Notes on the Go

  • The suggested ilvl for the first layer is 170. However, I’m not sure it’d be worthwhile at that level. The suggested ilvl for the last layer is 280. For each tier, there are eight levels.

  • Soul ash and Cinders are obtained after completing a layer. (and maybe notoriety; I didn’t tried on a non-80) I’m not sure whether this is intentional. Doing a layer 9 or whatever will most likely save you time since you can skip to the finish and go on to slaying a floor monster right away.

  • These runs don’t seem to be much longer than a standard Torghast run when you clear all levels.

  • There are no afflictions, enhanced meter/bonus, score, or blessings. The box with many items does not operate here, as indicated in the blue post.

  • Except for Adamant Vaults, the levels may be any wing except Twisting Corridors. Adamant Vaults is always on the fourth and final level. You appear to receive the benefits that you would typically get from Adamant Vaults, but I haven’t obtained a conduit yet, so I can’t verify it.

What is the mechanism behind it?

  • You only spawn on the boss floor rooms, as predicted. This implies there isn’t much running about and no other garbage gangs in this mode.

  • If you die, the remaining deaths counter (5 total) reappears, as does the boss health resetting. Tarragrue also reappears, despite the fact that we killed him on the last raid. After saying a line, the jailer teleports you out. It’s possible that Tarragrue wasn’t meant to be.

  • Three anima orbs are placed at the start of the first level.

  • When compared to a typical Torghast wing, there seems to be a considerably larger possibility for epic anima abilities on all orbs (you are killing bosses afterall). But it’s possible that’s simply my imagination. Before you finish (or even half) a layer, it’s probable that you’ll have gotten all of your excellent epic anima abilities for your class.

  • Each boss/rare, as well as the floor’s finish, grants you an anima power.

  • When you slay a monster on a floor, another portal may open up a few seconds later, spawning another boss/rare. This may happen a few times, and it will force you into conflict. Each boss bestows a special ability. You can’t continue on until all of the bosses on a floor are slain.

  • Fighting bosses one after the other affects the dynamic of your cds, anima abilities, and passion, if only slightly. If you die in the midst of one of these chain boss spawns, you will lose fight and will have to wait for cds/lust.

  • After the first story, the Brokers appear on EVERY floor. This is the only reliable method to get common/uncommon/rare abilities. The broker does not sell voracious anima power since it is worthless unless you are trying to spite a Broker.

  • The fourth level is unusual in that it lacks a boss in favor of two rares that must be fought simultaneously. Each of these rares also has the ability to generate another rare. I thought this was a brilliant technique to offer you abilities you wouldn’t ordinarily have. Some of these rares combinations, though, may be rather fiery.

  • Once you’ve finished the task, you’ll get an accomplishment and the prizes will be added to your collections instantly.

Problems/Concerns

  • Epic anima abilities are not suitable with all classes, specifications, or covenants. Some of the finest class/spec abilities aren’t always available, and you’ll only be able to do middling damage if you don’t use them. If this is the case, you’ll have to depend on the Broker’s inventory. You could get lucky(?) and discover it in a beginning power or one of the other powers. Many defensive abilities are also commons/uncommons.

  • I believe you may gain abilities that would be absolutely worthless in this mode, but it’s difficult to say since the method of obtaining powers differs. Killing mawrats increases health and confuses mobs, causing them to fight each other. At the same time, I’ve yet to see mawrats exploding or other mawrat abilities.

  • The Jailer’s Gauntlet awards have the same issue as the Twisting Corridors in that you only get awarded after two tiers. A mawsorn pet, a maw themed hearthstone toy (like the other cov hearthstone), the title Gauntlet Runner, and a Mawrat mount are all available. (Contrary to popular belief, this mount is rather attractive.)

  • More abilities are required. The absence of powers for all classes has been one of Torghast’s main issues since its creation. 9.1 included a slew of general abilities designed for the box of many items that aren’t accessible in this mode. Most of these abilities are designed for trash monsters or are extremely specialized stupid goods, so they aren’t particularly helpful. They also created two broker abilities for when you may use one of the blessings to attack them, which is likewise unobtainable (although these would be really strong). More abilities might likely be included in a later patch in the ptr, which I would welcome. However, for the time being, it remains the most pressing concern.

  • Because this grants epic abilities, you rapidly gain strength, which is important fighting monsters, particularly in the beginning. However, due to a lack of variation, you will inevitably end yourself in the same area again and over again.

  • Shamans (and maybe mages) have a significant edge while tackling this alone since they can desire numerous times each floor. When a second (or third) boss appears, the second desire will be quite helpful. If you haven’t already, you may wish to include shamans in your party.

  • Because Adamant Vaults only has two bosses, you’ll almost always see the same two, and they both have add spawns with invuln phases, which is aggravating. The mist power, however, does shatter one of the boss’s additions. Because they are unable to move, they get enraged and gaze at you. It’s sort of amusing, since their casts make it bullet hell the rest of the time.

  • The number of deaths left counter may or may not be a sufficient challenge for it. However, this is very subjective and may vary depending on the class/spec. As a result, the level of unforgiveness might shift, which can be frustrating. Although, if you die too many times, you could end up cheesing the various boss spawns and, say, the last level; wait for desire for each fight that spawns.

In general, this mode solves a lot of the issues that regular wings have. However, it suffers from the same problems in terms of anima abilities. Without the incentives, it seems that this mode would be a lot more pleasant to replay on its own. This is a matter of personal opinion as to whether or not this is a good thing, but most of these bosses are rather basic since they are designed to be quick. As a result, some of these bosses have just one object to interrupt and maybe a swirly to exit. For the most part, this isn’t particularly exciting. They don’t, however, have to be difficult. None of them are especially entertaining, but they all stick to their themes.

I didn’t want to clog this up with my thoughts, so I’ll direct any comments that hasn’t already been expressed to the forums. Please feel free to contribute anything you’ve learned from your testing. I hope you found my article entertaining, and I hope they are able to make this mode as engaging as possible. Overall, I believe this mode will be worth playing once it is released.
